Thu, Dec 1 – GA STATE FARMERS MARKET ASSOCIATION CONFERENCE

Augusta will send several representatives to this first-ever conference, called Food For Thought. Looking forward to connecting our city to farmers and markets throughout the state. There’s still time to enroll

Fri, Dec 2 – CLUBHOU.SE MARKET GARDEN  – 2017 APPLICATIONS DUE

Our fabulous partners at the Clubhou.se in downtown Augusta have a start-up “market garden.” We partner with them to introduce new urban farmers to the business of growing food for local restaurants. One applicant will be chosen for the 2017 season.  To receive an application and a rubric, text Kim at 706-288-7895.

Sun, Dec 4 – LOCAL CHRISTMAS TREE FARM PROMO BEGINS

Support a local Christmas tree farm this holiday season! We love working with the holly-jolly folks of Clarks Hill Christmas Tree Farm every year, and this year, we’re gonna make the deal a little sweeter. When you pick out and buy your tree at their farm in Modoc, SC, mention that “Augusta Locally Grown” sent ya!  You’ll receive a stocking stuffer: a $5 gift certificate for the ALG on-line farmers market.  This promo begins Sun, Dec 4, at 1pm, and continues while gift certificates last.

Sun, Dec 11 – HEALING FARM BENEFIT: HOLIDAY TEA & CHRISTMAS SHOPPING EVENT AT JANDL FARM

Do your Christmas shopping at JandL Farm and benefit their “Healing Farm Program” with every purchase! Details here

Tue, Dec 13 – ALG ANNUAL HOLIDAY GIFT BAZAAR

We think this is our 5th year hosting this yummy little yuletide event? Maybe it’s our 6th? In any case, it’s always fun!  Pick up your last-minute gifts during market pick-up, at the Augusta Jewish Community Center in Evans. Times are 4pm-6pm.

Thu, Dec 15 – SIBLEY SOILWORKS VOLUNTEER DAY – WITH GROW HARRISBURG

Get involved with one of the most innovative experiments in town! Join Hobby Farmer David Young as he leads us in the launching of a soil-making initiative for GROW Harrisburg, using invasive aquatic weeds pulled from the Augusta canal. We’ll be building our infrastructure this day, so come prepared to work!

Tue, Dec 27 – THE ON-LINE MARKET WILL BE CLOSED FOR THE HOLIDAYS

We only take one week off per year, and this it! The on-line market will resume Tuesday, January 3, 2017.

Sat, Jan 7 – THE VINEYARD GIVING FARM – VOLUNTEER DAY

ALG is joining hands with the folks at the Vineyard Church and Helms College.  The goal: transform their existing vegetable garden into an urban farm that provides fresh fruits and vegetables to local families in need, year-round. The mini farm will be run, in part, by students of ALG’s “Culinary Horticulture” classes, at Helms. Come help grow a “Giving Farm,” 9am-1pm.

Thu, Jan 19 – GEORGIA FOOD OASIS MEETING IN AUGUSTA

Do you know what your community needs to make fresh, affordable food more widely available? Become a “champion” for Food Oasis. Food Oasis gives communities the tools and resources to “cook up their own food future.” To receive an RSVP link for the January meeting, email Food Oasis ambassador Carla Walker at CarlaTrenaWalker@gmail.com.

Sat, Jan 21 – WORK DAY WITH G.R.O.W. HARRISBURG AT ICEBOX URBAN FARM

Come help in the work of G.R.O.W. Harrisburg! We’ll gather at Icebox Urban Farm and then divide into work teams. Hours are 9am-1pm, with a healthy lunch provided for volunteers afterwards. Yes, you heard right! We’re “Growing ouR Own Wellness.”

LATER THIS WINTER:

Fri-Sat, Feb 17-18 – GEORGIA ORGANICS CONFERENCE

Augusta had a wonderful showing of participants at the Georgia Organics Conference last year in Columbus, and we hope to repeat that this year in Atlanta! Registration is open now.

Fri-Sat, Feb 24-25 – NATIONAL FARMERS MARKET FORUM

Augusta Locally Grown is excited to play a role in organizing the National Farmers Market Forum, held in Savannah this year.  What a great way to learn from some of the country’s foremost thinkers (and doers) in the local foods movement.
