Augusta Eats Local at Abel Brown

Augusta Eats Local at Abel Brown

Jun 15, 2016Augusta Eats Local, Where To Eat

DOWNHOME GOODNESS meets innovation at Abel Brown Southern Kitchen & Oyster Bar. Like Georgia White Shrimp and Grits with Jalapeño Butter. Or Olive Oil Ice Cream Cake with Strawberry Banana Sorbet. But, we are getting ahead of ourselves;)

Chef and owner Todd Schafer has a mouthwatering resume of culinary experience and training. He’s worked in enviable parts of Georgia – including the Cloister at Sea Island – and throughout the United States, but he calls Augusta home. Former owner of the beloved Bistro 491, Chef Todd is passionate about his craft, which includes sourcing the freshest ingredients possible. He even grows some of his own. He also buys from a handful of local and regional farmers, including Walker Farms Organic Produce, Southern Swiss Dairy, LLC and East Georgia Produce.

The classy, well-placed venue is located in Surrey Center. Appetizers range from a plethora of oysters on the half shell to a smoked fish charcuterie plate, and main dishes run the gamut from local lamb and chicken to sustainably sourced seafood. Add all of this to a more-than-notable selection of local beers, cocktails and wines, and you’ve got yourself a party, “with the charm and tradition reserved for high company.”

Augusta Eats Local committee members – Audrey and DJ, Amy and Patrick – really have a tough job awarding these window decals, don’t they?
