Dec 2, 2016Farmer Education

We’re at the “Food for Thought” conference this weekend!  Hosted by the all-new Georgia Farmers Markets Association, this has been a truly mindful gathering of hands-on folks from all parts of our local foods movement.  We promise to bring loads of info to share back with us to Augusta!!!

Winter is the season for local foods conferences throughout our region, and we highly encourage you to invest in your own future within the good foods movement by attending at least one this year. Here are a few to consider:

Georgia Organics will host its 20th Anniversary Conference in Atlanta this coming year, on Feb 17-18. Scholarships applications are being accepted now. Our own “Food Oasis” campaign stems directly from the strong partnerships and networking accomplished by Augustans through Georgia Organics. Contact Augusta’s energizer bunny and GO/FO ambassador Carla Walker for more info!

The Southern SAWG Conference (Sustainable Agriculture Working Group) will be held this year in Lexington, Kentucky, on Jan 25-28. Scholarship applications are available now.  Attending this conference is a great way to better understand the regional implications of our work together.

We’re also super excited to announce that Georgia Organics will host its annual Farm to School Summit in Augusta on October 5-6, 2017!  Local educators, please save these dates. Georgia is recognized nationally for its farm to school accomplishments, largely due to this deeply-rooted initiative. What a great way to kick-off and augment your own farm-to-school education efforts.

Here’s to the combined goal of education-networking-inspiration for 2017!!!
